Hey could you call me if you have a minute. James my husband was stung yesterday over 100 times by what we think were Africanized bees. They had stingers like thorns and attacked in a large swarm. He had to be transported by Ambulance to the ER. We are going to burn the hive (that is in the wall of an old house) and just wanted to confirm our best route to get them all in the hive. I have read and heard that you can catch them all just before dawn or in the evening right at sundown. It this info accurate? Give my your email and I will send my number to you.

Oh my gosh that is terrible!!! Is James OK? You are correct, burn the hive after dark either evening or morning. They sure sound like Africanized bees.

Gee, a lady is gone for a couple of days and James goes and gets himself all stung up. I hope he's okay. The details of this would be worthy of going into the next MSlacy newsletter.

Yep...I'm a stand by your man kinda girl...unless my man is being pursued by a swarm of bees...for 300 yards no less...then I'm a call 911 kinda girl. James and I always do things together and in this instance it is truly a good thing we were together.

That's a heck of a long way to run. No doubt these were African bees. James is so lucky you were there.

How is James today? Still swollen? Itchy? If he gets stung at a later date it hopefully won't be as bad, just some itchiness. Unless he has a bad systemic reaction.

Not to scare you, the bad systemic reactions are rare.

Well James did have some anaphylactic symptoms going on. He was disoriented, turned very red, couldn't stand etc. Heis still tired but is getting better.

Very sorry to hear about James bee attack. Im glad to hear that he is recovering quickly. I wish those bees would go back to where they came from.

James should carry liquid benydryl or talk to his dr about carrying the quick shot to rectify the reaction. I have a friend who is highly allergic to bee stings and loves the outdoors. He just carries the meds on him. It was my understanding that if you've reacted once to a sting that the next time will be worse.

James should definitely talk to his personal doctor and see if he recommends the Epipen shot. It is a spring loaded shot of epinephrin that you just shoot yourself in the thigh with. But, it will make your heart race and can also give bad side effects. My doctor gives them to me to have on hand. In my beekeeping magazine, Bee Culture, they recommend that bee keepers keep their dirty bee suits outside the house because apparently small flakes of dried venom can come off of the suit and be INHALED by family members who then react! Wild stuff! My doc said that the more extreme a local reaction you have, the less likely you are to have a systemic reaction. The first time I was stung my whole upper arm swelled up, but now the stings just itch. but it still hurts to get stung, I don't like it!
One of my coworkers is allergic to those Brazilian fire ants, she woke up in an ambulance after stepping in a mound. Hope you get better James! Burn those bad bees to the ground!
