Did you know that dog bites frequently get infected? I figured Jones was tough, but it looks like we are headed in to see the vet tomorrow morning. One of his ears is not looking too good, and mama is on my butt to take him in! Furazone is not for puncture wounds, and it didn't work this time!

Clifford sorry to hear that . If you clean it with a aseptic and peroxide that should help the infection . That is what the vet is going to do . The problem with the ears is they can not lick it and clean it out themselves. I guess I should have told you to clean it everyday for a couple of days when you got home .

I thought we were going to be ok, but then I remembered that we had hogs, dirt, and a bite from a mouth that had just been on the hog's ear... The Furazone seems to have just sealed it all in. It was time to take him in anyway, so this will just be a little extra...

If you have any left over people antibiotics, the main pathogen of dog bites is Pasteurella multocida. Bactrim, tetracycline or penicillin is good. You could look up the dose for Jones's weight and give it to him. Keep cleaning his ear and put some triple antibiotic ointment or Bag Balm on it. Too bad it is his ear, soaking in warm Epson salts solution will help break up the scab so it can drain but I don't know how you'd keep him still. Are his lady friends cleaning it for him?
got my own dog bites before, not fun.

OK, Jones is now in the doggy hospital till tomorrow. He got sedated, and got his ears cleaned out. They started antibiiotics, and will suture his left ear tomorrow morning.
Stud fee just went way up!

Holy crap. Did they have to open it wider in order to stitch? I know puncture wounds on anybody or thing don't heal easily. I bet they did have to sedate him to clean it--no dog would stand for having it reamed out. He'll heal up quickly being on antibiotics. You'll have to keep him away from the girls so that they don't lick it. Otis got infected after his neutering due to him licking it. I figured it would keep it clean like they always say but apparently not the case.

Did he get both ears bitten? Or were his ears dirty in addition to getting a bite?

I expected it, but Jones just seems to be my "trouble" dog. He's the only one who has been to the vet for accidents... I think the vet needs a new truck or something! At least they didn't amputate his ears!
John, its not your fault... Boy dogs just do this stuff!

We get to pick him up at 8AM.... YEAH!!!!!! I bet he is gonna be all over us!
Gotta figure out how to keep Jazz and Jemma off those ears, so today could be interesting... He won't like being away from the action, but I see a day on the bed with Momma coming! Might have to rent some doggie movies, or something...

Jones is home, and watching westerns on the big bed! He seems to be wanting to hang tight with us, especially me... And, I am totally ok with that!
