A friend just had his Lacy in to the vet, because a kind neighbor decided to give the dog a huge portion of fatty meat. Dogs cannot process a lot of fat at one time, and it caused Pancreatitis, which almost killed the dog. Bacon drippings are in the same catagory. If you dog is picky about eating, you need to look into changing food, not adding table scraps which might make you feel good, but do them a lot of harm! The bill for this visit was over $800... OUCH!

A friend of my dad fed his Irish Wolfhound a pile of fat and ended up killing him. I've fed bacon dripping (when I've had them) to every dog I've ever owned. But I'm only talking a couple of tablespoons at a time. I've never saw any ill effects in my dogs but perhaps it takes a lot of grease? Good information to pass along. Thanks

I have read that eating spoiled things such as garbage or carrion can also cause pancreatitis. And that a dog that has had it once is prone to have repeat attacks of it.

Stormy ate a critter a while back that (don't know if it was dead or alive...didn't see it) and ended up with Gastroenteritis from the bacteria and the poison the critter ingested. The vet said she will be more prone to have it again...and the vet insurance company sent me a letter this weekend that excludes it from being covered for 1 year.

Only on Rocci and Stormy. I think my brood bitches need it more than the other ones.
