We work our dogs in SAR. A good way to introduce your dogs into this field of work is to bring them to nose work seminars. The K9 Nose Work website has a list of seminars across the US and abroad you can attend with your dog. Here are seminars being offered in February:

Good to see you posting....thanks for the info. Are the seminars for basic introduction for the dog and handler or are there graduating steps the dog must preform? I have not heard of these type seminars and just was wondering, seems interesting to me. Ill go to their site and do more reading...thanks, glad to see you back.

I sold one of my pups to a SARs group here in Texas . I was told by themm that not one Lacy has ever been able to complete the training and be certified . Does anyone know if that is true or not ?

The dog I sold went to a lady with Sunset Valley Search and Rescue . I do not know much about what levels or if there are even levels of certification for that type of work . That is why I was curious if that was true. To me I think a Lacy would excel at that type of work .

Sunset Valley sounds like a retirement village!

It kinda does sound like a retirement village, but this one is actually a small incorporated town within Austin.

I believe they are out of the Dallas area but may have other office but not sure . It would make a charming retirement home name !! ;D

From what I am finding, Sunset Valley Fire and Rescue is in the Austin area.
The NASAR (National Association of Search and Rescue) certifies Land SAR and K9 Land SAR. There are Lacy dogs working certified under the NASAR.
The PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certifies Dive SAR/Recovery.
There was not an organization that certified volunteer/emergency service organizations like disaster relief, urban SAR, wilderness SAR, etc. The US-HERO was formed to be able to help train and certify these individuals that would fall under this category. They follow the National Fire Protection Association's Standards.
