Well just looking for some insight from some people that are in the know. We will be relocating one of these great pups to our home soon, if we don't drown from the Tropical Storm first, and we just want to know what to expect. What is the best thing for them to sleep in at an early age? Any kind trade secrets. How much do they sleep? Please chime in. Everyone secrets are safe here. Thanks

Once the pup gets around you he will know your scent.....my suggestion is to wear an old t shirt and when you put the pup in their kennel at night put the shirt in with them....it may help ease the anxiety....

I use the crate to teach the puppy to respect me as Alpha. They learn wait first thing at my house. Put the puppy in the crate and close the door, immediately treat the puppy. Now say the word wait and start to open the crate door (the puppy will try to come out because he/she doesn't understand wait) close the door and bump the puppy with it as you say wait at the same time. It doesn't take long for him the understand and the treat is always important in this exercise. Now unlike many others my dogs don't live inside (they just get to visit) and they don't get on my furniture. I believe the Alpha gets the most comfortable place to sit and sleep. Cristi will tell you I am just a mean ol' Mama. But she will also tell you that my dogs are very well behaved and understand everything I ask of them...most of the time.

When a puppy is screaming DON'T cave to that kind of behavior. Ignore it. Whenyou catch the puppy behaving in the manner that you deem as good, then he can come out after you make him wait and allow him to come out. You are instilling the fact that you are alpha in your pack. With gradual, presistent, patient efforts the puppy will understand what you are trying to communicate to him. Also check out Leerburg.com where Ed frawley is training his new puppy Stella. Lots of FREE GREAT info on that website. You can also rent training videos for puppies from his site. Did I mention I talk too much!!!!
