Tracker came close to getting In a fight with a big ole coon last night! Was wondering who do you think woulda won? I've seen a coon tear up some big hounds should a 40 lbs lacy be able to kill a 20 lbs coon!

I stopped Sadie from going after a coon back in November. It was almost the size of her. I thought it was the farmers basset hound coming up the road.
I didn't want to find out.
Coons are on my to do list though.
I think the coon might have the edge right now their older and wiser.

Y'all don't think letting him tango with a few opossums and coons in the off season will mess up his blood trailing

you certainly dont want your hound in the water with a coon........the coon will win in that case for sure

I think you will be fine working your dog on other game and blood trailing.
When I hunt squirrels with Sadie she is free range.
When I run a mock blood trail I have my dog on a lead and she knows we will be searching for deer or a liver treat.
If we take a break from blood trailing for a week or longer I run a short trail first then the 400 yard plus trail. That way a young puppy knows for sure they are in training blood trailing mode.

We have a few coons in the neighborhood but we can't hunt them because we live in the city. However Jackson has already learned to hate them.

Bull is not afraid of coons at all and he will ball up with them in a second. But he can not handle one by himself yet but he tries. I usually have to let the other dogs help out . Patch is learning to handle them pretty quick but hasn't figured out once he has them by the neck to hang on to it . He like to flip them into the air and pounce on them again !

How did y'all start them fighting just let the two animals meet face to face or did y'all do anything special I'm not sure if tracker would fight or just bay at em

I had one in a live trap and the latch broke and if fell open when I dropped it . Bull was 4 months old he went right in the cage and drug it out . He looked like he had a octopus stuck to his face . I had to let patch in to help him. The next time was in a led trap and I had video camera Bull was first one on him again then the other 3 jumped in to finish it . Start them in a roll cage to see what they will do .

Baying everything they come up on isn't the worst thing you know! They are some animals you may not want your Lacy to tie up with, skunks for instance!

Well guys he seen his first one and bayed at that thing for a good 3 to 4 mins without stopping then he got a lil to close and that coon jumped on him and the fight well wasn't much of a fight TRACKER IS A HUGE PUSS!!!!!!!!!!!! he starting whimpering and crying then he was able to flip the coon and i finally got it off of him but he surely didn't show much aggressiveness like i thought i woulda saw i was HIGHLY HIGHLY disappointed that he didn't have any killer instinct take over and just kinda let that animal get the best of him when he surely could have taken that coon!
