I had a family emergency and couldn't track for about a week. It was in November the prime time of the deer season. A close friend of mine called and was in need of some help. He arrowed two deer a buck and a doe. The buck he double lunged and could see he had a good blood trail. The doe was a quartering to shot that he hit far back. My friend has been over the house shooting several times and Sadie likes him so I thought why hold Sadie back. I told him he could take her and give it a try. I gave him a few pointers and said I don't know if she will track for you. I suggested he track the buck that you made the good shot on first and give the gut shot doe some time. He called me back about six hours later totally impressed. He told me he wouldn't of found either deer without the help of Sadie. The blood trail from the buck ended after 200 or so yards. As you can see by the photo it wasn't a double lung hit. I told him as you approach a buck and its alive Sadie's hair will raise, she will growl, go up on two legs and try to get at it. If that happen take her off the lead. She will bay the buck. I don't want her getting tangled in the brush and giving the buck the chance to puncture her lungs. When he was tracking the doe he thought she was crazy, but followed her anyway. He was glad he did. After seeing the photos I was not going to let my buddy of the hook without a little sarcasm. He did this same thing a few years ago before I had a tracking dog and we had to find the deer the old fashion way.
