I was talking to Jack Kemp this evening. He is one of the TLGDA members. They raise chickens and produce fertile eggs. When the chickens are delivered his female Lacy "blue" herds and catches the chickens that try and get away. She will put her paw on them and if they struggle she will put her head down on them to hold them until Jack can come and get them. I thought that was a pretty cool job for a lacy

Is she Mexican?

I don't know if she is Mexican or not. You know we don't know for sure what exactly makes up the Lacy breed. Why do you ask that particular question...I'm probably gonna be sorry I responded to this question.

Well my dogs go a step further, unfortunately, they catch and kill. Bummer. They learned this from the labs who will kill anything that moves, including gopher turtles.

Sure, blame on the Labs...

Why is it the labs fault? They get blamed for everything these days

My sweet boys used to go into the pen with me. Never a problem. Never harrassed the chickens BUT then came the great escape, the murdering of the poor little stupid chickens. Yep I blame the black labs because they are proven killers. But in reality any dog will chase and kill a chicken unless they have been taught otherwise. I never had the chickens free roaming around the Lacys so I don't know what they would have done in that situation. My old lab won't be with me much longer so I may try completely free roaming flock in the future. My female lab mix could probably be deterred from chasing if I shoot a gun over her..she's terrified of guns. But I've always been told once a chicken killer always a chicken killer.

I used to have Indian runner ducks and my heeler/pit bull mix Rooster never ever killed another duck after I caught him with a dead one. I was so mad I snatched it up and started beating him with it. I don't normally beat dogs, I just totally lost it.
Pearl has a barred rock rooster buddy that she hangs out with, but she wants to kill the little bantams because they run from her. Luckily they are fenced off. The other day I was throwing the frisbee and Pearl jumped for it and landed on Roland Rooster, smushing him flat. He was furious. I grabbed her up and ran away or we both would have been spurred.

Now that's funny. My little bantam rooster thinks he's ten feet tall too! It's when they (chickens or cats or horses or whatever) that things start to get squirrely.

My bantam rooster is named Little Blacky. If you turn on the bathroom light he starts crowing. I am not even supposed to have chickens, the laws are so stupid. In my county you can't have one single chick or duckling unless you have 3 acres. I have 2 but I lie. I live near the county fairgrounds. They have a 4-H livestock competition and all these little kids go but can they have any livestock? Nope. Anyway, Little Blacky is very friendly and will come stand beside me when I go in his fence and squat down or sit. I saved him from an overcrowded coop where he was getting beat up by a big rooster and wasn't even allowed to eat. When it snowed back in February, I let all the bantams out to see what they would do in the snow. As I walked away I heard a "flapflapflapflap" and turned around to see Little Blacky flying straight for my head. He wanted to warm his toes, I guess! All the bantams hate snow.

My dang roosters crow when they see the light come on too. Does not matter what time of the night it is. I love hearing them crow and can't imagine anybody that doesn't. I have three little bantam hens that look exactly alike. They are all called "Chickie mama". The roosters are called several things depending on their behavior..Lilttle Man, Little SOB, and the dreaded curse word that I can't even bring myself to abbreviate.
