Say you have a wooden fence that separates your yard from a neighbor who also has a dog. And, that dog is breaking boards off so that he can come into your yard to play. These boards cost $5 each, and when there were six broken you went over and had a talk with the neighbor who promised that he was going to put up a "wire" to keep his dog off the fence. Now, lets say that was two months ago, and this morning you had to patch the same hole three times in two hours, and there are now over $100 worth of pickets broken. Would you: (1) Shoot the ^)(*^&* dog! (2) Shoot the ^%$(^$ neighbor! (3) Call the dog catcher and ask for help! (4) Go talk to the ^()$*& neighbor again, and keep fixing the fence, after he gives you more lip service. (5) Go to Illinois, and let your wife handle it!
Just wondering!

You need 2 strands of wire one across the top and one near the bottom. cut the plug off an extension cord and connect one leg to each, plug in the other end, then call the neighbor and tell him to come look at what his dog has done. Raise cain at him till he gets mad enough to either fix it or come through the hole. Problem solved, hole plugged.
Install a doggy door and teach your dogs to poop on the other side.
Either that or paint rings on the dogs tail and a mask on his face next time you see it. He might not want to play with Jazz and Jones anymore.
Just a few fun options to add to list. Really I hope you the best of luck at getting this resolved. #3 will cost him $$$ if they pick him up, or the dog will not come back.

I vote call the dog catcher and let him know you have talked to the neighbor to no avail. Does your home owners association have a liason that could possibly help you?

I did call the dog catcher, who advised me that he would have to see the dog in my yard, in order to cite them! He did volunteer to talk with them about it.... Guess we will see what happens next!

I'm all for an electric fence but not the way that Scott describes it! My father-in-law used this method as a mouse trap (i kid you not) and it would split the mouse in 1/2. My father also used it to keep cats off of his car..he ended up with cat sh@t all over his car. Too much pop to it. I'd call the dog catcher as this would involve no $$ on your part and might really make him take notice of the situation.

That was kind of the idea Rebecca ! lol
I had a similar problem awhile back, I kinda got an idea how frustrated Clifford is. The animal control is rarely much help. If all else fails SSS, even though it's not the dogs fault.
I know you shouldn't have too, but may be you could offer to install a strand of wire and a fence charger on his side. Probably be cheaper in the long run.

oh, you funny man you...i see your logic now.. I was concerned for Jones, Jazz and Jemma. Well the other dog too! War fare with the neighbors can have some long lasting disasterous consequences. this is part of the frustration too. I'd hate to see him be vindictive to J, J, & J. Now on the other hand, a little hot dog encouragement to get that dog to come over to your property along with new fence rails on the ready and the neighbor at work might be a good combo. "Gee I haven't seen your frickin dog" might come across as really sincere at a time like this.

I bet theres a county ordinance against animals being off their property. Like the animal control told you, he will need to see the dog in your yard. Maybe a few fines or getting in front of the local JP might be what the Dr ordered.
Like Rebecca said, fighting with neighbors can have lasting effects so be careful.......HOAs are a pain in the rear, I think your better off not involving them if you can find another solution.

I asked TWICE nicely... And, he sat back and let the dog keep tearing up my fence... If I didn't like the dog it would be MIA already. Today, the dog was inside all day... My dogs were out, and the fence was intact, if you count the numerous patches... I plan to give him till mid next week. But, if he hasn't done anything by then, I will!

I had that same problem and here is what I did. I bought a cattle electric fence and mounted it on the fence by the holes in the fence . I grounded it as it said to do, I then put just a short wire on the other end and put it where it hunge down by the hole. i put a piece of steak by the hole and put my dogs up . It only took about 3 times and the problem was solved. I then returned the unit back to home depot and got my money back.sounds cruel but works with no injuries. I must say I kind of injoyed it would rather have shocked the owner.

A summary: Yesterday the dog was kept inside, and no more fence damage. But, this morning the lady let him out, and the true SOB immediately tore out the bottom of another fence panel.
I guess I am going to have to go over and explain to her husband again, that this is going to get a lot worse shortly...
