Yesterday, a man called to see if we had a dog, to replace his one year old Lacy that was "killed" over the weekend.
Feeling sorrow over the loss, I asked the man what had happened to the dog...
He told me that the dog had chewed his way out of a plastic kennel while riding in the back of his truck, and had apparently jumped out and been run over by the trailer he was towing while on his way to his deer camp. He only had an empty kennel when he arrived at at camp, and guessed this is what had happened.
When I inquired as to why the dog would do that, he responded that the dog did not like being "cooped up", and that he had stopped once because the dog was barking so much while he was driving..
I got off the phone, and thought about this for a while...
Why would anyone try to transport a dog like that, if they hadn't been crate trained? I really wished I would have asked if he kept the dog outside before we got off the phone...
If I was going to my camp with only one dog, it would be riding in the cab with me...
This guy wanted a blood tracking dog, and indicated that he liked his Lacy, but I have to guess that he expected it to just learn it on its own.
So, somewhere in Louisiana, there is either a hurt or dead Lacy, and another instance of something happening that could have been prevented.
People, take the time to work with your dogs, PLEASE!!!!!!!
