going on a ladies only hunt after I get off of work tomorrow morning. There is a chance of snow flurries and it is going to be cold so all the varmints will be moving. The hunt is open for deer, bear and hogs. Pearl is coming to track and warm the bed.
Ya'll wish me luck, I am due for some! I have a snotty cold right now. Bringing the Nyquil for sure.

Lake Russell is my favorite WMA. The leaves were at their peak colors and we hunted up a 60 foot ridge overlooking a trout stream, just beautiful. Mike Anderson taught me a new trick for hunting in the mountains. Get a backpacking hammock and tie it between 2 trees that are close together so it makes a "U" shape. Then straddle it and have a seat. Great for steep country where if you sit on the ground you will slide down the mountain.
The mountain deer are not rutting yet but making scrapes and rubs. It was really cold and windy and snowed north of us. Got down into the 20s at night and our heater in the camper does not work unless on generator so we were happy to have a Lacy in the bed!
Several in our group had their hunts interrupted by non hunters! The WMA has always been popular for trail riding horses but they wisely stay out of the woods during a hunt. But now there are also lots of cross country joggers, one ran off a deer on a food plot just as a friend was going to make a shot. Also, some rednecks in a truck started making donuts in another food plot right at prime hunting time.
We saw several deer but were never able to get a shot. But it was great fun and we would not have missed it for the world!
