Cliff is out of town. He's in my car due to the price of gas, so I'm in his truck. Bright and early this Morning, I make a stop to the local Walgreens. When I get back in Cliff's truck, it will not start. I have to raise the hood, use the pliers under the seat to twist the battery cable. The cable seems tight, so I beat on node/cable with the pliers. The truck cranks right up. I'm thinking it's going to be a good Monday after all. I worked late, to around 5PM or so, ran errands, and then headed for home. The first thing I do is let my dogs in, because they're waiting on me, ready for my hello, and their food. The red's are ready and waiting, but there is no Jemma. I rush to change out of my work clothes. I get a flash light to look under the deck...no Jemma. I walk the fence. I can't see where she dug out. At this point, I'm thinking "how could Jemma get out without Jones..." I"m in panic mode! I drive around the neighborhoods and the schools calling her name. I find a police officer and tell him about Jemma. It's dark, my baby is hungry and scared. I know her. She wouldn't get too far away. I'm praying, and thinking, and crying. Somewhere around 8:30PM, I see my neighbors out in their yard. Their backyard meets my backyard. I run out, but before I could say anything, the guy says, "Did you get your dog?" I said what do you mean? I've been looking for her the last 3 hours. He starts to explain. Jemma somehow got into their backyard. She got into a tiff with one of their dogs and proceeded to chase their declawed cat. When they approached her, she growled and snapped. From there, it only got worse. No one's at home at my house, Jemma will not let them touch her. What do they do? They call the animal protrol. This dude couldn't touch her either. He had to get his pole thingy with the noose on the end to get her. My baby was scared to death. This is why she acted this way. She's not vicious. My Sweet Jemma is in doggy jail and I can't get her until 10AM tomorrow. No, I can't sleep. I'm too worried about my baby.
I think Jemma jumped the fence. But I think she was after a squirrel. She loves to tree squirrels, and she can spot them 2 and 3 yards away.
Anyway, say a prayer for my baby girl. She has never been away from her Momma.

Well we too had a double monday here at PHR. First...on Monday we had a cow go down after she had a calf. She could not get up and protect her calf so the Coyotes got it. Then the Cowboys came out and used the Cow lift on her to get her on her feet. She couldn't stand up anymore on her own so we had to shoot her. Then yesterday 8 cows got out (they jumped a charged fence)and ran 6 miles before we found and penned them...they went to the sale Today. This afternoon everything seems to be back to boring, normal status, Thank God!
Once a dog knows they can climb a fence...they will do it again. So I guess Jemma will have to be confined to her crate when y'all leave.

Wow! I am glad Jemma is safely home, Cristi! And that those cows got sold. That is sad about the mama and the calf.

Cyn, I hate the bad luck for you! I hope neither you or myself ever have another Monday like this one!!
Jemma is home. I missed the first half of the day Tuesday to pick her up. She was shaking all over when they brought her out. I fell apart, of course! We get in Cliff's truck and head home. She is not her usual self. She basically laid down on the back seat, which is something she never does. She doesn't like to ride, so she usually gets on the console so she can see where she's going. Of course by the time we get home, I'm in a rush due to meetings after lunch. I leave her inside with me while I get ready for work. She starts to come around some. She ate some food. Jemma and I go to the backyard after I get ready. She tolerates all the sniffing from my reds, but only for a few minutes. She started showing teeth, growling, and starts to attack. The reds hold their own, of course. This is out of character for my Jemma. I crate Jemma inside while I"m at work. When I get home, I let her out with the reds. Slowly but surely she get's back to her old self. Honestly, this episode was as traumatic for her as it was for me. She slept right up next to me Tuesday night. She was so close, that I could hardly turn over. She's fine now, playing again with my reds.
I can't help but wonder what was going through my girl's mind. She was so guarded when I got her home... I've always heard that a dog never forgets how's she treated... I'd like for my girl to forget this forever, but I think it will be a lesson learned for her. As, it's a lesson learned for me. You see, Jemma didn't have her collar on. You can't imagine the guilt I felt. I was afraid someone has taken her. Of course, I know better now. I don't think any stranger will ever be able to take her.
Jemma and I now have a bond. She looks for me and is very aware of what I'm doing and where I"m at in the house. She's become a Momma's girl. I don't think she'll scale the fence again, or at least in the same spot! And, I've figured out what she did. She was after "the squirrel". She jumped up the fence, and when she realized she was at the top, she jumped over. Before she knew it, she was in a strange place without me or Cliff...
Thanks for all the responses. We're back to normal. I thank God for my 3 Lacys, and I thank God they're all well and safe at home!
My sweet nieces prayed for Jemma while she was missing. I thank them for their prayers! Sweet, sweet angels!
