The jury is still out on whether or not I can make the trip. I'm afraid it will probably be a last minute decision.
It would be good if there was a way for you to copy the material that the other lady is bringing, kinda of a backup in case anything should happen.
I would love to see the documents, if not this weekend then another when we can get together.
Thanks

Read my post on another thread about hog hunting.
I have been hog hunting with dogs since I was a kid. Not with lacy's and not the way my husband does it now, but some form or fashion I have been around it since I was a child. I live in Texas. The only dog I have lost during a hog hunting trip was hit by car.
The rest I have prevented from dieing by taking them to the vet.
However, if you do not hog hunt, or have never been, then I say either come join me and I will show you, or ignore it because you don't know. I do not for one second tell marlo anything about blood trailing or Ben Glenn anything about cattle work. I don't have enough information. It would be like someone coming to my work and telling me how to do my job. Nope.
This is not in anyway coming against anything you have posted, Clifford, this is for the masses.

Melanie, Dogs are going to get hurt and die. Depending on area and method is the major factor I think. Hell Ginger died her first trip out down south when yall gave her to J. Crap happens. I can name a few people I hunt with that have lost dogs. These sarnt weekend hunters, I am talking 250 plus hogs a year type people. No shooting, catch and tie or stick.

Question Mike.
I have never owned a dog named Ginger nor sold a dog to a guy named J. When was this? Who were the parents?
I am not saying dogs don't get killed in the woods, but a lot of them can be saved by simply taking them to the vet or putting the protective gear on them.
We (our hunting partners and I) have lost three dogs total over 7 years and 1000+ hogs. One to a car, one catch dog that got an artery cut and bleed out before he made it to the vet (not my dog) and one running catch dog that died on scene (again not my dog). Knock on wood, but we have never lost a bay dog to a hog. I understand that crap happens, but sometimes it can be avoided by researching. If you kow hogs are bad in the area, put the cut vest on and your cut collars on. I do not feel any sympathy for anyone who loses a dog that didn't have a cut vest on them when you took them hunting. SOrry but I dont.

Melanie, do you put cut vests on your bay dogs?

No, not in Texas. You will stroke a dog out if they are too hot. It also causes more accidents (in my opinion) because they are slower. However all bay dogs have on cut collars to protect their throat and also tracking collars.

I was talking about the pit yall gave to Josh. Whatever its name was.
I run a cut collar on all my dogs and vest up my bulldogs. 2 bulldogs and a cur got killed. Cuts through the vests and collars. crap happens. Dog will die. The dog that the thread is about was wearing a cut collar, had never seen a hunt where they didnt collar up dogs.

Okay the pit (Teah) i let Josh use (I was to get her back) was shot because she caught a cow thanks to the other pit on the ground. It had nothing to do with hog hunting and it was FAR from her first time out. And we will not talk about that because I am still pissed off at him. Get all the facts before you make a$$umptions.

Seth said if you dont know the story then do not talk about it.
Also I am going to say this only once. I dont give a rats ass if the dog in question had on protective gear or not. The dog died because it got an infection from not being properly taken care of. 9 days later means it could have been saved. A dog will die from shock within 72 hours. This dog died from an infection. Which in my opinion is bullcrap. Take care of your damn dogs or do not own them.

Lively discussion, I was taken to task for alot less on this very subject as was Rebecca "Elvira" Ferrell.
The whole thing is a shame........and according to you folks who are experts on this subject quite preventable. I think Rebeccas point has been made.

I am glad I am able to post.
Hog hunting is a dangerous sport for the dogs and humans alike. The dog that died was protected just like my dogs are when we hit the woods. crap happens. I tend to my dogs the best I can. The dog was brought to the vet and he said to wait. You do all you can to save a limb. I asked my vet yesterday he thoughts and he said the same thing. I didnt see the injury firsthand. Not many did. We can agrue all day long about it but when your young dog that is burning up the woods gets hurt, you are going to do whatever you need to do to save it. I feel that it was done. What ever way you look at it- You arnt going to let your stud dog die. I am saying this from the outside looking in. The dog was given the care but the infection got him.
