Amos and Otis found and killed their first grown raccoon on our property yesterday afternoon. First off when I got home Amos took off all around the house and to the chicken pen just a yipping. I thought "gee the deer don't usually come up this close". So a little later I heard them barking and growling in the front yard. At first I thought snake but they never jump on a snake. So then I ran up close enough to see that it was a varmit. They were a tag team and were working that coon over. I ran for the camera. However, in this little span of time my husband comes on the scene and calls them off the coon. He is a real softy and can't stand to see anything killed. However, it was too late. Amos & Otis were all jacked up last night. Kept wanting to go back outside; you could just see how much pleasure that one coon brought them!! I explained, once again, to my husband that coons eat chickens and also carry EPM (which my horse caught last year). So, any and all varmits are fair game for my dogs. Plus, they have to carry on in the footsteps of my ancient Lab who used to kill everything and anything that steped on the property. He missed the action cause he's deaf as a post.
