The rut is at its peak in my area of Georgia. I arrowed a 3 pointer for the freezer and am allowed one more buck, must be 4 points on a side. A doe in the freezer would do just fine if I don't get a buck.
Then we will be working on squirrel hunting with Pearl. And hopefully she will get more blood trails under her belt. She really liked my young buck and was busily lapping up all the blood she got find.
How are things going in other states?

Your pics were fabulous! I hope to get up to AL in Dec/Jan..I'm after tender doe meat for the freezer. I've got the word out for blood since I can't find a meat market that has any. Plenty of squirrels around however. Just need to put down the paint brush, shovel, rakes, etc and get busy hunting.

I shot a little bitty doe, did it because I knew she would be good to eat but felt terrible even so. But oh those chicken fried deer steaks were soooo good!

I am making the most of January, trying to get Mr. Big Horns, and kill a hog or two, cause when its over, its over... February will be here soon enough, and then things begin getting back to normal... So, if you don't reach me on the phone, leave a message. I will call you as soon as I get out of the woods~!

I am going up to the mountains to visit the Andersons and go on a public land hunt for bear, bucks and hogs! Snow is predicted. I know I will freeze my butt off, but I will be miserable if I don't go!
Hubby is staying home with Pearl. He was gonna come too but Pearl went into heat....

Good Luck on keeping your butt because it will be hard to keep the pants up if that happens.
I am jealous since our deer season ended last weekend but we do have a youth hunt this weekend and we are going to try to kill some ducks, limb rats and then hopefully put the dogs on some does.
Good Luck on your hunts and I need to kill a pig one of these days.

Back from the mountains and I am now hooked on bear hunting! It snowed and Mike showed me all the bear sign. He gave me GPS coordinates to an absolutely gorgeous spot and I sat and watched the snow. No bears spotted but it was lots of fun. Hopefully this year the bear limit will be increased to 2. I want a bear! And a hog!

I guess a Mountain Lion is just a big kitty cat too, right?

Rebecca I was feeling the same way until I got into hunting one and seeing the signs Then I really got into it. The bears here are flourishing and it was a good year for acorns.

Clifford..I've never understood people that hunt for a "trophy". No problem with hunting for food but to bag something like a mountain lion, zebra, bufffalo, mountain goat, monkeys, whatever just to have somethign hanging on your wall i just don't get or like. Don't get me wrong I'll eat anything and would shoot anything that i needed to eat. They say bears are good to eat but they still look like hairy people.

Hunting is the best tool for conservation, and is a part of life. We are the ultimate predator! About the only thing on your list that I wouldn't shoot, and eat, is that damn monkey. And, if he aggravated me, I might still do it!
